“I really enjoy getting to know each and every one of the interesting people who come and stay at Nugent,” says Caroline. “We always have a wonderful time.” Here’s what her guests, and some travel writers, had to say about the experience of staying at Castle Nugent!

Caroline (pronounced Car-o-line) Gasperi is the owner of this working cattle ranch. She is a wonderful host whenever we visit. All the comforts of home... The entire ranch overlooks the beautiful ocean. The Ranch reminds you of a ranch in Arizona or New Mexico... it is that rustic.

As we sat on the veranda of our guest house watching the sun set, listening to the languid roar of the ocean in the distance, it seemed as though nothing could be more peaceful. Images of our stay at Castle Nugent are completely different from those of most Caribbean vacations: Sipping rum drinks on the veranda in the evening as we watched the cattle walk down to the watering trough.

Caroline is an historian in her own right... Castle Nugent Farms affords one the opportunity to experience some of St. Croix’s Colonial legacy firsthand.

The sea has a different mood for every day. Here, a view of the east rocky shore of the bay directly below the guesthouse.

We came away with a feeling of appreciation for the natural beauty of this part of St. Croix as well as a better understanding of how our culture, through the centuries, has been so inextricably tied to the land.

Spending the night in Castle Nugent’s quiet, three-bedroom guesthouse is like sleeping in an antique shop. Each room features its own bathroom, brightly colored Italian tile and fine West Indian and European antiques throughout. The tiled wraparound gallery is a great place for soaking in the bougainvillea and cactus landscape and the sea and farm views.
